A MESSAGE FROM MAGGIE

For more than 50 years I have been proud to live in this area, to raise a family, to attend church, and to serve my community. For more than 30 years, I have worked as a teacher in Greensboro and Guilford County, and you have allowed me to serve as your state representative in Raleigh for 18 of those years. During that time I have worked to build a better life for our children and families, improve schools, bring in good jobs for our people, fight crime and protect the environment.

In recent years, we have been impacted by the national recession and economic downturn in our state and nation with continued job losses, unemployment, more businesses being forced to close their doors, the rising cost of health care, and a lack of adequate funding for our children’s education.

During the last legislative session, my support for jobs, education, healthcare, and the environment nevertheless remained steadfast, as it always will remain. Even though the General Assembly faced serious budget deficits, I kept my commitment to making North Carolina a better place to live, work, and raise a family. While limited funds precluded our providing additional resources for many important programs and many important areas, we remained able to balance the budget.

We should be proud of that, but I believe we can do even better. That’s why I want to continue to represent you on the issues that matter most to Guilford County and North Carolina. I invite you to learn more about my record and how we can continue to work together to build the brightest possible future. I also invite you to let me know your ideas about how we can build on our progress.

Our best days are ahead of us if we keep our focus on the right things, and if we work together. We are all fortunate to reside in one of the best places in the country!
